Rancho Santa Fe known locally as ″The Ranch″, is a dog and cat lover’s dream community. With awe inspiring large homes and vast properties, every Fluffy and Fido has room to play and wander. Any path you find in Rancho Santa Fe is going to be a wonderful walk with your pet.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center http://www.animalcenter.org/, located in RSF is a unique, private, non-profit organization in San Diego County that, for over 30 years, has been committed to the philosophy of people helping animals and animals helping people. Located on 12 acres, their nationally recognized Center provides a variety of services that benefit the community through educational and therapeutic programs for people, and humane care and adoption for animals.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center is HUGE, and they even have horses and other animals that range beyond the scope of cats and dogs. The facility has large kennels, plenty of room to run, big fenced in areas for walking and getting acquainted. They have videos of the dogs that are currently available, and you can view pictures online.
The price to adopt Dogs runs from over $225 to $400 each. Okay, that sounds expensive but on the positive side, this includes the price of spaying/neutering and micro-chipping, and a complete veterinarian check up before being made available.
They have LOADS of cats at this place. Some kind, gentle old ones, lots of kittens, and some aged in between. The cages are spotlessly clean, and the cats all look happy, given they are living in cages. Volunteers come in and let the cats out in little rooms where they play and interact with them. This is just awesome! These kitties are really given good care.
One thing RSF knows how to do is raise money for homeless animals. The Ugly Dog Contest in March helps to support the Center. The Kit Kat Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Annual Spring Fling is in June. And, the Annual “Wags to Riches” Rummage Sale is in October, to name just a few of the events that raise zillions of dollars. All are listed on the website at http://www.animalcenter.org/events/index.aspx
