6th Annual Doggie Street Festival
Saturday July 12th 9AM-4PM @ Liberty Station in Point Loma
San Diego’s largest pet adoption-focused event, the 6th annual Doggie Street Festival will be held at Liberty Station on the NTC Preble Field July 12. Filled with food, music, vendors, entertainers, special guests and more, you are sure to enjoy yourself! Author and humorist Quinn Cummings and the infamous Surf Dog Louis are just a few of the special guests that will be coming throughout the day. But that isn’t all; there will be over 35 breed-specific rescue groups and other adoption organizations that will have rescue dogs up for adoption, so you may find a new addition to your family! The Doggie Street Festival will also have an “Ask a Pet Professional Booth” where veterinarians and other pet health practitioners will be able to answer questions and provide information for free to anyone who wants it.
San Diego’s Doggie Street Festival started when independent film maker Julie Artenstein was inspired by the increasing amount of abandoned and mistreated dogs during the economic crisis of 2008. She created an adoption event to bring the rescue community together, increase adoption, and promote public awareness about pet homelessness. 2009 saw the debut of the Doggie Street Festival and in the five years since then it has only grown to reach new heights. In 2012 the Festival expanded to include Los Angeles, marking it as Southern California’s largest pet adoption-focused event.
Awesome Doggies’ dispatcher Christa will be one of many volunteers helping to make this wonderful event possible. Come out on July 12th and be prepared to have a good time. Who knows, you just might find a new furry friend to take home!
