If you’d love to spend more time with your dog outdoors, the beautiful city of San Diego has you covered. There are many fun things for you and your fur-babe to enjoy and explore. Here, we highlight some of our favorite things to do with dogs in San Diego.
Dog Gone! Scavenger Hunt
Thrill of the Hunt is a company that creates and organizes themed scavenger hunts across the nation. On September 10, they are bringing one to San Diego just for dogs and their parents. Spend time with your pup walking around and searching for clues. Find treats and toys along the way. This is a great way to spend quality, fun time with your dog while getting outside and meeting like-minded pet parents. Visit their site for more information on this and other upcoming events and to sign up.
Hit the Beach
Feel like getting in some beach time? Bring your dog down to Dog Beach in the OB. This popular off-leash beach allows dogs and dog parents to run in the sand and play in the ocean with freedom and acceptance. The only requirements here are that dogs have vaccinations up to date, that you have their tags attached, and that you pick up your pup’s poop. Other than that, all you need is a strong desire for fun in the sun, sand, and surf with your dog.
Share a Meal
If you’re craving a nice meal, or an evening cocktail, and you’d like to bring your dog along, The Patio On Lamont is worth checking out. They love dogs and welcome them with special treats made in-house. They have open water bowls and an atmosphere that is both pet and parent friendly. So next time you’re hungry, strap on that leash and take your babe out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner on the patio. Visit their website to view the menu or make a reservation.
A Walk in the Park
If you fancy a romp in the park, one popular spot is Nate’s Point in the vast Balboa Park. This grassy, tree speckled area is totally fenced in and has water, tables, and a double-entry gate. It’s perfect for socializing with other dogs and humans while enjoying the fresh San Diego outdoors. It’s over two acres in size, so there’s plenty of room to run. The park began many years ago as an unused plot. Once revamped as a place for families to enjoy the outdoors, it quickly attracted pet parents as a place to hang out with their dogs. Now, it’s officially an off-leash dog park enjoyed by San Diego dogs 24 hours a day.
These are just some of the many outdoor venues and events San Diego has to offer for pets and pet parents. If you’re in the mood for some outdoor fun and adventure with your dog, try one, or all, of the above options. For more fun ideas, or for a post-adventure grooming, please contact us.
Take A Hike
If hiking is your thing, grab a leash and head over to Cowles Mountain. This short (3 miles round trip) yet challenging hike is a great way to spend time with your dog while getting your heart pumping. Amazing views pepper the trek as well as greet you at the summit. You’ll happen upon views of Coronado, Tijuana, Lake Murray, and Downtown San Diego.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed hiking spot, Tecolote Canyon may be just right for you. This park has over six miles of trails to explore with your leashed pet. It’s an open space nature preserve full of native plants and birds. You can opt for a casual stroll or an invigorating jog. It also has bathrooms, water fountains, and an educational area where you can learn about the native flora and fauna as well the park’s history.
