We are a festive group here at Awesome Doggies and it’s time to get into the spirit of fall. We love the colors, we love the foods, we love the cool crispness of the air, and most of all we love getting your dogs all gussied up for fall celebrations! There is just something about getting furry family all squeaky clean that says “let the fun begin!” And for us, good times usually mean good food too. So today we want to share a recipe for one of our favorite doggie treats —Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Cookies!
While these cookies are perfectly suited for humans, they probably will not appeal to human sensibilities of taste because there is no sugar in the recipe. That’s okay though, it just means more for your faithful friend who will think these treats are to die for! (And better for their teeth too.)
Ingredients
2 ½ cups whole wheat or rice flour
2 eggs
½ cup pumpkin
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2 teaspoons molasses
Directions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Mix together flour, egg, pumpkin, and peanut butter. Add water if dough is too stiff to roll, or flour if too sticky.
-
Roll to ½ inch thick and cut into appropriately sized treats for your size dog. Our customers receive a dog-bone shaped cookie cutter after their first appointment with us, and that is perfect for this task.
-
Bake 40-45 minutes on lightly greased cookie sheet. Test doneness.
-
Leave out to dry and cool before storing in an airtight container.
These dog treats store and freeze well, but chances are that there will not be any left to save. Dogs find these treats delicious. Even better, the pumpkin is a great source of fiber, vitamin A, beta-carotene, potassium, and iron; all of which are very important to your dog’s health and a beautiful coat.
