Many, although not all, places in Ocean Beach welcome dogs inside while you conduct your business (some even offer water and dog treats).
While it’s best not to assume your dog will always be welcome, there are a few places where you won’t have to leave them home or tethered outside while you go about your life:
Weekends: don’t expect your dog to sit at home and wait while you enjoy your time off. Do something fun together.
- Original Dog Beach, at the foot of Voltaire St.
- Dog Park at Dusty Rhodes Park, Sunset Cliffs between Nimitz & W. Point Loma Blvd.
- Sunset Cliffs National Park, the southern end of Sunset Cliffs Blvd.
BEWARE OF FOXTAILS — ESPECIALLY THE MONTHS BEFORE SUMMER!!
REMEMBER: Just because you CAN bring your dog into a dog-friendly establishment, doesn’t always mean you SHOULD. Sometimes it’s crowded and just not a good idea – use common sense when you bring your dog in public.
Food/Bars – Dog water
Shades Oceanfront Bistro, at 5083 Santa Monica Ave http://www.shadesob.com/ provides dog water, as does Tower Two Beach Café nearby.
Tasty Treats: Dogs Love Them Too!
Lighthouse Ice Cream & Yogurt, at 5059 Newport Ave http://www.yelp.com/biz/lighthouse-ice-cream-and-yogurt-san-diego, offers Frosty Paws, a sugar-free, soy-based ice cream for your dog. “It’s sort of a salt lick for your dog,” said Carol Ladies, owner of Lighthouse Ice Cream. “We even defrost them a little bit, then take a picture for our doggy photo board.”
Beach Sweets on Newport Ave http://oceanbeachsweets.com/ has water outside and a section dedicated to custom organic dog treats.
Drop in for a free pet treat at Bone Appétit on Newport Ave http://www.boneappetit-ob.com/ . This locally owned and operated, all around great pet shop is greatly favored by our groomer Elyse (who lives in OB).
If you see one of our Awesome Doggies trailers running around or parked in OB, it’s because we live & work in the Ocean Beach 92107 area.
WHY NOT GET YOUR DOG GROOMED WHILE YOU HANG OUT? If you live in OB, why not schedule a pet grooming Ocean Beach style with Awesome Doggies (call us at (858) 633-3641 to book an appointment) while you loaf in a nearby restaurant like Hodad’s (famous for their burgers) on Newport Avenue http://hodadies.com/home/. There are so many great places to chill out in Ocean Beach. It’s truly awesome, dudes.
